We present a charming interior scene, the parlour of a rustic country cottage, an oil painting by the French artist Emile Auguste Philippe Schneider (1873 – 1947). Schneider was a prolific and versatile painting working in oils, most notably known for his portraits of dignitaries. He trained first, at the Strasburg Academy of Decorative Arts under the tutelage portrait artist Leon Hornecker (Alsatian – German/French, 1864 – 1924), and to Strasburg Academy f Fine Arts 1890 – 1892, continuing his studies at the Munich Academy of Fines Arts up to 1894, where he exhibited his first painting. Returning to Strasburg in 1899 and already an established painter Schneider opened a studio which became a respected artist group called the Rue Saint Nicholas. The group was openly oriented towards Parisis and the Alsatian artists and by 1909 was renowned as the Associates des Artistes Alsacians, holding numerous exhibitions in Strasburg, Paris and Munich. Schneider was a prolific painter of landscapes and portraits; he alsos worked as a designer and a teacher, retaining a position of Professor of Decorative Arts and receiving the Knight of the legion of Honour in 1924. Surviving the atrocities of both world wars, Schneder continued his painting career until his death in Paris in 1947. Many examples of the work of Emil Auguste Philippe Schneider can be seen on artprice.com, findartunfo.com, artnet.com, askart.com and mutualart, com, on the auction sites of christies.com, sothebys.com and bonhams.com. Presented in very good overall condition in a later frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed
