For Sale - One working Ancient IBM Thinkpad X31 with Windows XP.,  docking station with CD drive, IBM power supply , 1 poorly battery, Windows XP CD and licence & the original broken hard drive for reference .

Bad Points
-----------
Both batteries do not hold enough charge for the laptop to fully boot into XP. but enough to prove the battery charging circuit is working and partial boot. When the X31 or docking station is connected to charger , with or without the battery in, the x31 it will boot fully without problems  .The battery  will not hold its charge and I suspect this is causing the problem'
.
There is small damage to both x31 and docking station casings on the left corner . It look as though its come into contact with some thing hot over its life and the plastic has melted . Its only casing damage and does not affect the operation of the x31 or its docking station. With skill use of a fine file , I am sure most of it could be dressed out .

The screen has one fine vertical line of damaged pixels midway across and this I have again shown in the photos . Otherwise clarity and colour is excellent.

Good Points
--------------
This laptop was given to me a decade ago as a none runner . its always been stored in the house warm and dry. I recently loaded a new hard drive and windows XP and this has brought it back to life . I also added some extra RAM to help it . During its rebuild I have rebooted and ran overnight many times and it has been stable.

he X31 comes with everything you see in the photos , X31 , Docking station/Disc drive, IBM charger , original damaged disc drive for reference & windows XP cd and licence. Licence on both on the CD pack and also stuck on the underside of the X31 . There are two batteries , Neither hold charge enough for the X31 to work fully without charger.

The Lid is in really good condition for age. The rubberised feel has not gone tacky. Nice to touch. There are few marks and chips as shown but nothing ugly.

USB port recognises mass storage but the storage will need to be formated by XP to read. Please see photos. My Logi cordless mouse works just fine .

DVD drive recognises DVD and CD's but lacks the drivers to play them. Please see photos.

Wireless Internet connections are seen and the drivers are there . My Virgin and BT hubs wouldn't get past the password request. You can see from the photos that XP didn't like password formats.

Using a direct ethernet cable RJ45, from your router to the x31 port or the docking station port, you will be able to connect to the internet and ping to google 8.8.8.8. Graphically you can see the Google home page and its search's work to say, eBay, however you cannot connect to sites. Please see photos.

I have replaced the watch cell battery , so it keeps time on its internal clock fine now.

RAM has been upgraded - see photo.

Selling as sold as seen and no returns . You are very welcome to come and visit to see and test before you buy , please message me. Likewise , collect from me after payment via eBay. Sorry about the postage costs , there are batteries involved and generally need to be sure this is safely packed & tracked  to make the journey to you. Insurance is needed also .

Suggest,  an " upgrade " to windows 8.1 or newer , or better still Linux ? may get this x31 onto web sites via wireless or wired connection  . I hope you can see from my tests that it basically functions and reliably so. Royal Mail 2nd class signed for .

Thank you for looking , any questions please do not hesitate.

I am on holiday from 7th Jan 2026 to 17th Jan 2026.  So I wont be able to host a visit / collection / post during this time  thank
