Imagine it sitting proudly on a well-worn wooden desk in a captain’s quarters, its finely detailed artwork depicting the ships that once graced the Devon docks, their sails billowing against the salty breeze. This is more than just a humidor—it’s a storyteller, a silent witness to the golden age of seafaring.
Crafted by Crown Devon Fieldings, a revered pottery company that dates back to the 19th century, this piece embodies the exceptional artistry that made their works highly sought after. Established in 1870 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Crown Devon became renowned for its luxurious ceramics, bold glazes, and intricate hand-painted designs. Their pieces weren’t just functional—they were works of art, gracing the homes of collectors and connoisseurs alike. Sadly, after more than a century of excellence, Crown Devon closed its doors in 1982, making their remaining pieces treasures of a bygone era.
This particular jar, with its warm earthy tones and evocative nautical imagery, speaks to those who cherish history, craftsmanship, and a touch of nostalgia. Perhaps it once held the prized tobacco of a seasoned sailor, who would carefully open the lid each evening as he reminisced about the adventures of the day. Or maybe it sat on the mantel of an old English pub, where weary travelers gathered to swap tales of the sea over a fine pipe and ale.
Today, this stunning tobacco jar humidor is ready to become part of your story. Whether you’re a collector of Crown Devon pottery, a lover of nautical history, or someone who appreciates the beauty of vintage craftsmanship, this piece will undoubtedly command admiration. Display it proudly in your home, gift it to a fellow collector, or let it transport you to a time when the world was navigated by the strength of the wind and the dreams of sailors.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to own a true piece of history—a tangible connection to the past, waiting to be cherished once more.
Condition: Previously owned, in good condition. Shows signs of use and has crazing throughout the piece. There are two chips on the edge of the lid, which also has crazing. The jar has some brown stains on the interior. The painting on both sides of the jar features the inscription "Quay Side Devon." The bottom of the jar is marked with the number #1337 and the brand’s stamp. Please carefully review the photos for more details.

SHIPPING
We strive to package items so that they are not damaged during shipping. However, if item breakage occurs during shipping an insurance claim will need to be processed. Please see the INSURANCE AND / OR REFUND section for more information on starting a claim. The price of the shipping is an estimate of the furthest location possible we can ship. We are happy to provide a refund for any extra in the shipping.
If you are using a PO-BOX as shipping address, consider that you might have an increase in the price of your shipping. This happens because USPS charges more for this kind of delivery, especially for larger and heavier packages.
We use UPS as our primary shipping company.
We plan to ship with insurance.
If you are an international purchaser, you have two choices:
1) Sign up with eBay for International Shipping Program. This allows you to see the domestic (USA) shipping costs as well as international shipping, handling, and other fees. The import charges include any customs duties, taxes, brokerage, and other fees. This means that we as the seller will send your item to the global shipping center, and it will be shipped to you from there. This option allows eBay to take care of the shipping process for you.
Our shipping price is based on the use of lots of shipping material to avoid any damage to the product. However, this does not mean that damage to the item will not happen.

INSURANCE AND / OR REFUND
To start an insurance claim, it is important that you send us pictures of all damage/pieces of the broken item, the packaging inside the box, and the external packaging. Please keep all packaging until any damage inspection is complete. The claim process may take upwards of 10 weeks (about 2 and a half months) to complete. Please be patient and we will keep you informed of the progress.
If your item arrives with damage due to the shipping process, we are happy to reimburse you. This reimbursement can work in two ways:
TOTAL REFUND: A total refund will ONLY happen if the item was completely lost or damaged in a way that renders it unusable. To receive a complete refund, you need to photograph and send pictures of the broken item and the packing box. Then you must package and ship the damaged item back, including the broken pieces. The buyer is required to pay the return shipping costs. A total refund can also happen if you are dissatisfied with your item. In this case the packaging and return of the item is also mandatory.
PARTIAL REFUND: A partial refund will happen if your item was damaged due to the shipping process. The value of the partial refund will be discussed and agreed upon between buyer and seller. To receive a partial refund, the buyer needs to send pictures of all damaged pieces, the packing box the item was sent in and material the item was sent with. The buyer is required to keep the damaged pieces and packing material until the process is finalized.
