RockMan EXE Transmission, known in Japan as Rockman EXE: Transmission (ロックマンエグゼ トランスミッション), is an action role-playing game developed by Capcom for the GameCube. It is part of the Mega Man Battle Network series (known as Rockman EXE in Japan), which blends RPG elements with real-time combat.
Key Features
Story: The game follows Lan Hikari and his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, as they battle against cyber threats in a futuristic internet-based world. The story is set between the events of Mega Man Battle Network 3 and Mega Man Battle Network 4.
Gameplay: Unlike the handheld entries in the series, Transmission features 3D graphics and a more action-oriented combat system. Players control MegaMan.EXE directly in real-time battles, using chips (special attacks) to defeat enemies.
Chip System: The game retains the series' signature "Battle Chip" system, where players collect and use chips to perform attacks or abilities during combat.
Multiplayer: The game includes a multiplayer mode where players can battle against each other using their customized MegaMan.EXE.
Graphics: As a GameCube title, it features 3D environments and character models, a departure from the 2D sprite-based visuals of the handheld games.
Reception:
Criticism: The game received mixed reviews. While it was praised for its attempt to bring the series to a console, it was criticized for its repetitive gameplay, lack of depth compared to the handheld titles, and clunky controls.
Legacy: It is considered a spin-off rather than a mainline entry in the Mega Man Battle Network series and is often overlooked by fans.
Trivia:
RockMan EXE Transmission was the first and only Mega Man Battle Network game released for a home console.
It was released in Japan in 2003 and in North America in 2004, but it never saw a European release.
