This item (or items) is part of over 300 items collected by a fan of David Lindley, one of the greatest multi-instrumentalists of all time. Many of the items were acquired by the fan directly from one of David Lindley's road managers. The fan's estate included autographed posters, photos and CDs, press kits, cloisonne pins, promotional items that were not sold to the public, collectible t-shirts, magazines and rare vinyl records from all over the world. There is even original artwork for backstage passes and shirts issued to the crew. The scores of posters run from 1967, when Lindley was a mainstay of the San Francisco rock scene, through his years with El Rayo X and into the early 2000s. Some of the concert items feature such noted artists as Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Ry Cooder and others. The collection includes posters for Lindley's bands Kaleidoscope, El Rayo X and his tours with Jackson Browne, Hani Naser and Wally Ingram. Posters include such famous venues as The Avalon Ballroom, The Fillmore, The Magic Mushroom, Crystal Ballroom, The Straight Theater, Carousel Ballroom, Red Rocks Amphitheater and others in Holland, Japan, Sweden and all over the United States. The estate also included quite a few non-Lindley items, primarily Family Dog postcards from the 1960s and one by Bill Graham Presents for Led Zeppelin's 10th US show ever in 1969, predating their first record release.
I have also been a big fan of David Lindley since the 1970s after discovering that he gave Jackson Browne's music some of its signature sound throughout that decade. I have seen Lindley perform many times with Browne, El Rayo X and on his more recent tours.
All of these items are now for sale by Craig Hopkins, author of Stevie Ray Vaughan: Day by Day, Night After Night, and a complete list of the Lindley archive with photographs has been compiled and posted. Of course, this selling platform will not allow me to tell you where to find it. It's like a treasure hunt! This listing may be ended early if the item is sold without bids here. So put in a bid through eBay.
From David Lindley's website: "Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley performs music that redefines the word "eclectic." Lindley, well known for his many years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne, and leader of his own band El Rayo-X, has long championed the concept of world music. The David Lindley electro-acoustic performance effortlessly combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy, and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates an incredible array of stringed instruments including but not limited to Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud, and Irish bouzouki. The eye-poppingly clad "Mr. Dave's" uncanny vocal mimicry and demented sense of humor make his onstage banter a highlight of the show.
"David Lindley grew up in southern California, first taking up the banjo as a teenager, and subsequently winning the annual Topanga canyon banjo and fiddle contest five times as he explored the American folk music tradition. between 1967 and 1971 Lindley founded and lead what must now be seen as the first world music rock band, the Kaleidoscope. In 1971, Mr. Dave joined forces with Jackson Browne, serving as Jackson's most significant musical co-conspirator until 1981. In 1979, Lindley had begun working with old friend Ry Cooder on 'Bop Till you Drop' and 'The Long Riders' sound track, a musical collaboration that lasts to this day, and has spawned many recording projects and several world tours as an acoustic duo.
"In 1981, Lindley created his own remarkable Band El Rayo-X, which integrated American roots music and world beat with a heavy reggae influence. 'El Rayo-X', 'Win This Record' and 'Very Greasy', as well as a live e.p. during this period he also came forth with a solo album, 'Mr. Dave'. Lindley and guitarist Henry Kaiser went to Madagascar for two weeks in 1991 and recorded six albums of indigenous Malagasy music (including two collaborative cd's, 'A World Out of Time' volumes one and two on Shanachie) which proved to have a major impact on the world music scene, both for the quality of the Grammy nominated music recorded, and the fair and ethical way the Malagasy musicians were dealt with. Throughout this long and distinguished career, Lindley has been one of Hollywood's most in demand session musicians, lending his skills to the recorded works of Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby and Nash, Warren Zevon, and many others."
PHOTOS and CONDITION: I have provided a written description and at least one photo which fairly conveys the condition of the item. Please excuse any glare or reflections in the photos. The posters were in protective tubes, so please excuse the rulers and other items used in the photos to keep posters flat while photographing. The collector was finicky about what he bought, and most items are in nearly mint condition. All the vinyl records look unplayed unless noted otherwise, and some are even factory-sealed. Records are visually graded. As a matter of principle, I do not rate anything "mint." If I describe it as "near mint," it means I do not see any flaws affecting value.
AUTOGRAPHS: There are approximately 30 items signed by Lindley in the collection. They are all consistent with known genuine signatures that I obtained myself. The collector obtained Lindley's autographs at shows on the west coast.
PRICES: Please keep in mind that eBay takes a large cut, so I cannot price it here like items I sell direct. I am always happy to consider a discount for buying multiple items totaling $150 or more.
SHIPPING: I am a collector myself. You do not have to tell me to pack carefully. I have packed and shipped more than 11,000 items worldwide. Packing will be adequate but not wasteful. I will ship as quickly as possible, often the same day, so make sure to look at all my listings quickly if you want combined shipping.
Please look at my other items for sale. I will COMBINE SHIPPING to save you as much as possible. Usually, several posters can be shipped without any additional shipping charges after the first poster.
Posters will be shipped rolled unless there is reason to ship flat. Posters may be shown in a frame, but are sold UNFRAMED unless otherwise stated above. If you want the frame, we can agree on a price for it, but buyer accepts all risk of the glass breaking.
I do not pester my buyers to leave feedback on eBay, but appreciate when they do. My reputation can be easily gleaned from approximately 1,000 positive ratings.
