Smith was voted in as governor of New York quite a few times in the 1920s and once retired from that job became the president of Empire State,Inc, the corporation that went on to build and operate the art deco masterpiece, the Empire State Building in New York City, the worlds tallest skyscraper at the time it was built in 1931.
