Doctor Who – Series 8 (2014):
Series 8 of Doctor Who returns to UK TV screens on 23rd
August, starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara.
The series is set to open with a feature length episode titled "Deep Breath".
The season features guest stars including Michelle Gomez (Bad Education, Green
Wing) as the Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere, Foxes (Grammy award winning
singer/song writer), Frank Skinner (Room 101), Ben Miller (Armstrong and

Deep Breath (8x01)
A dinosaur
materialises in Victorian London and spits out the TARDIS
onto the banks of the river Thames, from which emerges the
freshly regenerated Twelfth Doctor—suffering from
post-regenerative trauma—and Clara Oswald.
They are greeted by the Paternoster Gang, comprised of
Silurian Madame Vastra, her human maid and wife Jenny, and Sontaran butler Strax. Vastra instructs the police on how
to calm and contain the dinosaur and takes the Doctor and
Clara to their residence.
The Doctor awakens to hear the dinosaur's pleas for help.
The Doctor then joins Clara and the Paternoster Gang, who
have followed him to the river, and learns from Vastra of
recent incidents spontaneous combustion. The Doctor jumps
into the water to investigate. Clara returns home with the
others to start their own investigations, hoping they will
cross the Doctor's path. |

Into the Dalek (8x02)
The Doctor saves
Journey Blue, a rebel fighter, from her space shuttle, which is under attack by
Daleks, but is unable to save her brother, who has already perished.
He returns her to the rebel command ship Aristotle. He is greeted by Journey's
uncle, Colonel Morgan Blue, who thanks the Doctor for saving his niece, but
declares that he must be killed for fear he is a Dalek spy.
However, Journey declares that, as he is a 'doctor', the Doctor can help their
patient, which is revealed to be a war-torn Dalek they found floating through
space who has appeared to have turned good. |

Robot of Sherwood (8x03)
Clara Oswald insists
that the Doctor take her to meet Robin Hood, despite the Doctor's claims that
Robin Hood is only a legend.
When the TARDIS lands in medieval England, they are met by a man who claims he
is Robin Hood. Robin challenges the Doctor to a duel and the Doctor accepts,
using a spoon instead of a sword. The Doctor manages to push Robin into a river,
only to be pushed in by Robin later. Still, the Doctor remains in disbelief even
as Robin takes the two to meet his band of Merry Men.
Clara enjoys her time there and learns that Robin is still looking for his Maid
Marian, but the Doctor remains distrustful of Robin and is convinced there is
something wrong, particularly with the weather - it is far too green and sunny
for the season. |

Listen (8x04)
Clara Oswald meets
with fellow Coal Hill teacher Danny Pink for their first date. However, things
take a turn for the worse when the subject of his time serving in the army comes
up, and they each unintentionally offend the other with their lack of
understanding.
On her return home, she discovers the Doctor waiting for her, needing her help.
He has begun to question whether every living being has a constant companion,
using the example of the 'dream' all people have - showing everyone from young
children to an elderly woman - in which a hand grabs them from under the bed at
night.
Clara initially dismisses this, but agrees to return to her childhood so they
can investigate. |

Time Heist (8x05)
The TARDIS' phone
rings in Clara's apartment, and the Doctor and Clara find themselves in a
strange chamber suffering from memory loss along with Psi the augmented human
and Saibra the mutant human. They have been recruited by 'The Architect' to rob
the Bank of Karabraxos, the most impregnable bank vault in the universe.
The quartet collect the tools required for their heist, before witnessing a
mysterious alien named the Teller turn the brain of a criminal to 'soup' with
its psychic abilities. Saibra is later caught by the Teller, and activates an
atomic disintegrator to avoid the pain of the Teller's brain scan. Psi soon
follows when caught by the Teller, and Clara and the Doctor gain access to the
vaults of the bank. They gain the rewards of their heist from the vault, and
proceed to the Private Vault and unveiling the goal of the heist. |

The Caretaker (8x06)
Clara is trying to
maintain two separate lives: one as the Doctor's companion, and the other as a
school teacher in a romantic relationship with Danny Pink.
The Doctor tells her that he's going deep undercover, disguising himself as a
temporary caretaker at her school (Coal Hill). Tracking a Skovox Blitzer, which
vaporised a community support officer, CSO Matthew and is one of the deadliest
machines created, he plans to displace it a billion years into the future where
nothing else can be harmed.
The Doctor meets Danny without realising he's Clara's partner, treating him with
disdain because he was a soldier. Suspicious of the Doctor, Danny accidentally
tampers with his trap, and the Skovox Blitzer is only sent seventy four hours
into the future. |

Kill the Moon (8x07)
The Doctor takes
Clara and Courtney on a trip, where they arrive in 2049 on a Space Shuttle to
the Moon with one hundred nuclear bombs. Noting the Moon's higher gravity and
meeting Captain Lundvik, the Doctor questions her, where he's told that her team
are on a suicide mission to blow up the Moon.
A sudden mass high tide had threatened humanity's existence, the cause being the
Moon. Their mission was the only way to save the planet. An astronaut prepares
to prime the bombs, but is attacked by a spider-like creature. Another spider
attacks again, and the Doctor realizes that they are only germs. The Doctor
determines that the Moon is an egg, with the creature inside ready to hatch.
They call Earth's inhabitants to make the decision, receiving an unanimous vote
to save the Earth first... |

Mummy on the Orient Express (8x08)
Clara rejoins the
Doctor for one last outing before she leaves the TARDIS and the Doctor for good.
They arrive on the a train named the Orient Express which travels through space,
a distant future remake of the famous train.
The Doctor soon discovers that an elderly woman has recently been murdered
by a creature only she could see - an Egyptian 'Mummy' (known as the Foretold)
invisible to all but the one that it is about to kill. Once it is seen, it kills
its victim in exactly sixty-six seconds.
The train's computer program, 'Gus', reveals to the Doctor that he has tasked
him to capture the Foretold or face the death of innocents. |

Flatline (8x09)
On returning Clara
to London, the Doctor finds something is draining energy from the TARDIS and
they end up in Bristol instead. They find the TARDIS' exterior size has shrunk
as a result of the energy drain, and the Doctor sends Clara out to learn more
while he tries to stop the drainage.
Clara befriends Rigsy, a graffiti artist now performing community service with a
small crew. Rigsy explains several people have gone missing recently, their
disappearances memorialized by a mural in a pedestrian tunnel painted by an
unknown person. Clara returns to find the TARDIS has shrunk even farther, with
the Doctor unable to physically get out. He passes her his sonic screwdriver,
psychic paper, and an earpiece to let him communicate with her, and asks her to
carry the TARDIS with her as she rejoins Rigsy, taking on the role of "Doctor
Oswald" and adopting several of the Doctor's mannerisms. |

In the Forest of the Night (8x10)
Maebh, a young girl, is running through a
forest when she comes across the TARDIS. She knocks and is
answered by the Doctor, who after attempting to take her
home, realizes that a forest has grown over London.
Meanwhile in London Museum, Clara and Danny lead a group of
kids out into the new forest after a museum sleepover. Clara
immediately calls the Doctor, who reveals he is already
aware of the forest and tells Clara to meet him in Trafalgar
Square as he has found the runaway child from her group.
The Doctor realizes Maebh is behind what's going on, and
uses the sonic to get the trees to speak through her. They
reveal a solar flare is heading towards Earth which will
destroy it and wipe out all life... |

Doctor Who – Last Christmas (2014):
On Christmas Eve, Clara Oswald is woken up by the sound of
something crashing on her rooftop. Investigating nearby voices, she is
astonished to find Santa Claus, two elves, a sleigh and flying reindeer stranded
on her roof. The Doctor soon arrives to take Clara away, but not before Santa
tells him that he will need his help before the night is over, while promising
him a tangerine.
At the North Pole, a group of scientists attempt to save their fellow base
personnel, who have been taken over by crab-like creatures. Their effort is
interrupted as the Doctor and Clara arrive on the scene. While introductions are
being made, however, they come under attack from the crabs, only to be rescued
by...

In an unknown time
period, a war takes place on an extra-terrestrial
battleground, fought with a mixture of primitive and
advanced technologies. While running across a war zone, a
boy becomes trapped inside a field of 'handmines'. The
Doctor arrives and tries to save the boy, tossing him his
sonic screwdriver so they can communicate and encouraging
him to survive. However, when the Doctor asks the boy his
name, he is shocked and horrified when the boy says his name
is Davros, future creator of the Daleks. |

9x02 The Witch's Familiar
After being
seemingly killed by the Daleks at the climax of "The
Magician's Apprentice", Clara finds herself outside the
Dalek city with Missy. Missy explains how they managed to
escape: using energy fired from the Daleks' weapons to
teleport themselves away via their vortex manipulators
(which they'd used to find the Doctor in the previous
episode), destroying the devices in the process. Missy
illustrates the method by relating a previous instance in
which the Doctor performed the same trickery. |

In an underwater
base in the year 2119, a joint military-industrial team
discover an unidentified vessel in a long-submerged town.
While examining it, they uncover mysterious symbols carved
onto the inside of the stark white interior. When one of the
ship's engines activates, the hangar catches on fire. The
group flees the room but their commanding officer, Moran, is
killed. Once they have left the hangar, the group head to a
corridor, only to turn around and see Moran standing in
front of them in a ghost-like form, who then attacks them
alongside another apparition. |

The episode opens
with the Doctor explaining the bootstrap paradox to the
audience: a hypothetical time traveller decides to go back
in time to meet Beethoven, whose music he admires. However,
he discovers that Beethoven never actually existed. The time
traveller then decides to publish Beethoven's music himself,
essentially 'becoming' Beethoven. But, the Doctor asks, how
did the music first originate, then? "Who really composed
Beethoven's Fifth?" |

9x05 The Girl Who Died
The
Doctor lands the TARDIS on Earth, and they are captured by
Vikings. The Doctor attempts to use his "magic" to
impress the Vikings into letting them go. He claims to be
Odin, but an image of Odin appears in the sky, commending
the Viking warriors' bravery and inviting them to Valhalla.
A squad of armoured suits arrive, using weapons that appear
to disintegrate the warriors. The Doctor deduces they are
using advanced imaging to target the warriors and teleport
them away; Clara tells Ashildr, a young woman from the
village, to use part of the sonic sunglasses to free them.
The two women are struck by the weapons after the sonic
technology was scanned. The armoured suits disappear,
leaving the Doctor alone with the non-warriors of the
village. |

9x06 The Woman Who Lived
Alone and on the
trail of an alien artefact, the Doctor interrupts "the
Knightmare" as 'he' carries out a highway robbery in 1651
England. The Doctor finds the artefact in the coach's
luggage using a Curioscanner but it drives off before he can
take it. Talking to the robber, he finds that 'he' is in
fact Ashildr, the Viking girl he had brought back to life
using a Mire medical chip but thus also rendering her
immortal. Over her years of everlasting life, she has lost
many of her memories, and has isolated herself in order to
avoid the pain of losing loved ones. She begs the Doctor to
take her away from this world, but he refuses. He discovers
that she previously had children, who she lost to the
Plague. She keeps this memory as a reminder to never have
children again and suffer that pain a second time. |

9x07 The Zygon Invasion
In the aftermath of
the previous Zygon attack on Earth and the Doctor's actions
to ensure the creation of a peace treaty, there existed two
versions of UNIT scientist Osgood: one human and the other a
shapeshifting Zygon duplicate who do not divulge which is
which since they considered themselves as both hybridized
sisters and the personification of the treaty. Though the
treaty allowed 20 million Zygons to remain on Earth,
peacefully living out as disguised humans, the Doctor warned
the Osgoods of the Nightmare Scenario should the treaty
break, and left the Osgoods with a mysterious container they
call the Osgood Box. Since that time, one of the Osgoods was
killed by Missy; following her death the other left UNIT and
disappeared from the grid. |

9x08 The Zygon Inversion
Bonnie, the leader
of a small splinter group of shapeshifting Zygons that
intend to start a war with the humans they live among, has
taken Clara's form, keeping her body in a Zygon pod. Clara
finds herself in a dream-based version of her flat, able to
control Bonnie's actions to a small degree due to a
telepathic connection between them. Clara is able to thwart
Bonnie's first attempt to shoot down the Doctor's plane.
Though the second rocket strikes and destroys the plane, the
delay has given the Doctor enough time to escape safely with
Osgood. Later, Bonnie finds a peaceful Zygon disguised as a
human, and causes his body to revert to its Zygon nature in
front of a shopping mall south of London. She uses Clara's
mobile phone to record and upload the footage, starting a
panic across news broadcasts. Meanwhile, Clara, through the
telepathic connection, uses Bonnie to text the Doctor that
she is awake without Bonnie's knowing it. |

9x09 Sleep No More
The episode opens in
medias res as Gagan Rassmussen, the lead researcher on the
Le Verrier Space Station in orbit around Neptune sometime in
the 38th century, addresses a camera to record a message.
Rassmussen warns the viewer not to watch this but explaining
how the video, assembled from various recordings made over
the last few hours, will help put together events leading to
this point. Rassmussen continues to narrate through the
episode as events are played out. |

9x10 Face the Raven
The Doctor and Clara
receive a phone call from Rigsy, who informs them of strange
numbers that have appeared on the back of his neck and that
are counting down. After examining him, the Doctor concludes
that a Chronolock has been placed on him and he will die
when the countdown reaches zero. Determined to discover the
who is responsible and save Rigsy, the trio discover an
alien community in London. They then discover that Ashildr/"Me"
is the mayor of this street, and that Rigsy has been
sentenced to death for murder. Clara discovers that the
Chronolock can be transferred to a willing recipient and
takes it from Rigsy, and believes that Ashildr will remove
the Chronolock and spare her. In the end, the alien woman
Rigsy has been framed for murdering proves to be a lie;
Ashildr made a deal with an unknown party to have the Doctor
transported to another location via a teleport bracelet. It
is revealed that as the Chronolock has been passed on to
Clara, Ashildr can't remove it and Clara can't be saved.
Clara pleads with the Doctor not to take revenge for her,
and Clara then dies, and the Doctor is teleported. |

9x11 Heaven Sent
Following the events of "Face the
Raven", the Doctor is teleported into a glass chamber
located in a structure resembling a large castle. Upon
investigating the surrounding corridors, he finds a series
of screens scattered around the castle. The screens relay
the vision of a mummified, veiled creature which is
constantly stalking the Doctor around the building. It
chases the Doctor to a dead-end. Admitting that he sees no
way to escape death, the Doctor confesses that he is afraid
to die, leading the creature to stop. The entire castle
structure rotates and reconfigures in response, opening an
exit at the end of the corridor that the Doctor was trapped
in, beyond which is a bedroom with an ancient, faded
portrait of Clara. The Veil follows the Doctor into the
room, forcing him to leap out the window to escape. The
Doctor lands in an ocean surrounding the castle, finding
that the seabed is littered with thousands of skulls. |

In a Nevada diner,
the Doctor encounters a waitress physically identical to
Clara, and begins to tell her a "story" about Clara; neither
appears to recognize the other.
In Gallifrey,
Rassilon attempts to have the Doctor imprisoned and
executed. The Time Lord military instead pledges its loyalty
to the Doctor.
The Doctor has the
Time Lords use an extraction chamber to retrieve Clara from
her timeline at the instant of her death. The Doctor takes
Clara and a TARDIS and escapes Gallifrey, attempting to take
her far away enough that she will return fully to life. At

The Doctor and Nardole are living under the guises of a university professor and his assistant at St. Luke's University in Bristol. Bill Potts, who works at the university's canteen, is called to the Doctor's office, where he notes she attends all his lectures, and Bill eventually becomes the Doctor's student.
Months pass, and Bill is intrigued by another student named Heather, who has a defect such that it looks like there is a star in her eye. Heather asks her to inspect a mysterious puddle, asking her if she can see what's wrong...

The Doctor and Bill find they have arrived in London in 1814, in the midst of a frost fair on the frozen Thames.
The Doctor's sonic screwdriver is stolen by Spider, an orphan pickpocket led by Kitty. The Doctor and Bill chase down Spider and Kitty away from the fair. There, glowing lights under the ice encircle Spider's feet and Spider is pulled through the ice.

10x05 Oxygen
Nardole accompanies
the Doctor and Bill to a space station to answer a distress
call. Most of the crew have been killed by their smartsuits,
robotic spacesuits capable of independent movement which are
the only source of oxygen on the station, forcing the TARDIS
crew to don spares.
The suits received an order to "deactivate organic
components"; some crew survived by being disconnected, but
networked suits can transmit the command by touch. Bill's
suit malfunctions, forcing the Doctor to give her his helmet
to save her, exposing himself to the vacuum of space...

the End of the World
The Doctor is called
in by the Secretary General of the U.N. after a pyramid
mysteriously appears on the strategic border of the Russian,
Chinese and U.S. armies. It's revealed the Monks are
responsible for the pyramid and that they have foreseen a
disaster through their simulations, offering an opportunity
to save humanity if they consent to their rule.
Elsewhere in a biochemical lab, a scientist accidentally
misreads the levels of chemicals in an experiment releasing
a deadly biochemical virus.

development.

television praising the Monks' guidance over humanity. |

Mars
On Earth, NASA finds
the words "God save the Queen" written on the surface of
Mars.
The Doctor, Bill and Nardole venture to Mars to investigate,
and they discover that the planet is occupied by human
soldiers from Victorian Britain. Nardole goes back to the
TARDIS, but the TARDIS goes faulty, causing him and the ship
to leave Mars.
He has to ask Missy for help to get back. |

10x10 The Eaters of
Light
The Doctor and Bill,
having argued about the fate of the Ninth Legion of the
Imperial Roman army, travel in the TARDIS along with Nardole
to the 2nd century in Scotland to prove the other wrong.
Bill finds some of the Legion's soldiers hiding underground.
They are hiding from a creature they call "Light Eating
Locust" that seems drawn to any light source.
Meanwhile, the Doctor and Nardole discover the corpses of
the remaining Legion, their bodies devoid of bones. They
later find a Pict tribe guarding a cairn and waiting for Kar,
their leader and who is their "Guardian of the Gate".

and Time
The Doctor proposed
to test Missy by having her answer a distress call. They
arrive via TARDIS on a colony ship reversing away from a
black hole. They are held at gunpoint by Jorj, who shoots
Bill!
The Doctor, Missy, and Nardole learn that the crew had gone
down to the ship's bowels but never returned. Due to time
dilation, the crew descendants now number in their
thousands.
Bill awakens with a replacement heart. Razor explains that
the patients are awaiting to be "upgraded".
