Shaquille O’Neal will be the fifth member with the Lakers to have a statue outside of Staples Center, including former center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Nov. 2012), former guard and executive Jerry West (Feb. 2011), the late broadcaster Chick Hearn (April 2010) and former guard Magic Johnson (Feb. 2004). Many Hall of Famers and ex-teammates including Kobe Bryant, Jerry West, Phil Jackson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Alonzo Mourning, Gary Payton, Robert Horry, Rick Fox and many others were all on hand to celebrate this special occasion. The Lakers also defeated the Timberwolves on this night as well with a final score of 130 to 119. Shaquille O’Neal caused a scene when he slowly walked into Staples Center in the second quarter, fist-bumping fans before taking a courtside seat near his old team's bench. “The whole arena turned into `Oh my gosh, Shaq is here," said Larry Nance Jr., who shook his hand at halftime. "He deserves it and it was an honor getting to play on his night. I'm just glad we got the win."
