Joseph-Marie Degerando, born in Lyon, France in 1772 was deeply influenced by the enlightenment and front revolutionary ideals. It is no surprise then, and that he notably helped to guide European observers and how to study and document non-European societies without cultural bias, principles that are still in practice in anthropology today. This book is a direct translation of his, "Considerations sur les diverses methodes a suivre l'observation des peuples sauvages" from 1800.

This book, published by the University of California Press, was printed in Great Britain in 1969. 123pp. 9x5.75" in original green cloth. Hardcover. Previous owner signature on front fly-leaf. Interior pages are clean throughout and the text block is firm. Slight edge-wear to dust jacket including a small 1/2" tear to rear cover top (see pictures). Else a very-fine copy.
