The commemorative coin “Archistrateg Michael” is dedicated to one of the main archangels, known as Archistratig Michael, which in Greek means “commander-in-chief”. Among believers, this is one of the most revered biblical characters, who leads the “heavenly army of angels” and is the patron saint of victors fighting for a righteous cause. The respectful attitude towards Archistrateg Michael has been preserved from the times of Kyevan Rus to the present day. He became a symbol of heavenly protection for the Kiev princes, and later his veneration was enshrined in toponymy – in the names of church buildings, as well as in heraldry – on the coats of arms of Kyiv, the Kyiv Voivodeship and the Kyiv Province. Today, the image of Archistrateg Michael is present in the attributes of the Ukrainian troops and again symbolizes the fight against evil.

The obverse of the coin features: at the top, the small State Emblem of Ukraine, under which is the inscription UKRAINE; in a circle, against the background of the MM-14 pattern (“Drawing of the camouflage pattern of 2014”, also known under the unofficial names “Pixel” and “Ukrainian pixel”), a stylized laurel wreath is depicted, symbolizing glory and victory; at the bottom, the denomination 10 and the graphic symbol of the hryvnia. In the center, in an octagonal cartouche on a mirror background, the logo is depicted, under which are the inscriptions: NATIONAL / BANK OF UKRAINE / 2024.

The reverse of the coin on a mirror background depicts the archistrategist Michael; on the right and left, there are stylized silhouettes of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, helicopters and anti-tank hedgehogs, which compositionally emphasize the struggle for independence; around the circle there is an inscription: …FOR US AND THE SOULS OF THE RIGHTEOUS, AND THE POWER OF THE ARCHER MICHAEL (lines from the poem by T. G. Shevchenko “Haydamaki”)
