In July 1995, two of the Philadelphia Phillies all-time greats were welcomed into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in the same induction class. Schmidt spent his entire 18-year career with the Phillies and Ashburn spent 10 years, nearly all of his career, with the Phillies before going on to a 25+ year broadcasting career alongside broadcasting legend Harry Kalas.
Richie “Whitey” Ashburn was beloved beyond measure member of the Philadelphia Phillies family. He was an all-star center fielder known for his range as well as the plate for his bat and speed on the bases. His jersey number was retired by the Phillies and he is a member of the Phillies Wall of Fame.
Mike “Michael Jack” Schmidt was an unstoppable force at third base and at the plate. He was a 12x all-star, 10x Gold Glove winner, 8x home run leader, 6x Silver Slugger winner, and 3x National League MVP. He was on the 1980 World Series winning team and was also named MVP. Likewise to Ashburn, his jersey number is also retired and he is a member of the Phillies Wall of Fame. In more recent years, he was served as a hitting coach to active players and contributes as a color commentator in the broadcast booth.
Please see all the pictures that show the excellent condition of these four newspapers and two poster inserts. These are the exact items that you will receive upon purchase. No newspaper has anything more than very minor, barely visible creases and no significant rips, markups, or defects otherwise that suggest anything more than light handling.
The Schmidt poster has a small crease in the bottom left corner and the Ashburn poster has a color streak from the left edge introduced in production. Both are clearly visible in the pictures included here. Since purchase, all have been kept in a plastic storage tub in a climate-controlled, smoke-free home. No previous owners.
