Original introduction:
The bronze vertical eye mask was unearthed in the No. 2 sacrificial pit of the Sanxingdui site in 1986, more than 3,800 years ago. Among the many bronze masks unearthed in Sanxingdui, this bronze vertical eye mask has the most peculiar and majestic shape, and is also one of the "six national treasures" of Sanxingdui. It is 138 cm wide and 64.5 cm high. Its eyes are bulging outward in a columnar shape, which represents the ancient people's worship of eyes. A pair of ears with carved patterns are fully spread out on both sides. The shape is magnificent and majestic. It is the earliest and largest bronze mask in the world, and it is also one of the most distinctive cultural relics of the Shang Dynasty. It is now collected in the Sanxingdui Museum.
Because the most exaggerated feature of the large bronze vertical eye mask is the protruding eyes and elongated ears, some people call it "clairvoyance" and "wind-listening ears". The exaggerated shape shows that it has superhuman magical powers. Combined with the record of "Cancong's vertical eyes", it is inferred that this statue may be the statue of Cancong, the first king of Shu. It is also speculated that there are rectangular holes on both cheeks, and this image may have been inlaid on the wooden pillars in the ancestral temple by the Shu people for sacrifice.
