RIP painted
Moneighs at Keeneland on October 7, 2024.
RIP was
foaled on June 10, 2020. His owner, Monnie Goetz, purchased him from the breeder
when he was about 6 months old. He is a registered American Sugarbush Draft. His
name was inspired by the actor who plays RIP on the cable show Yellowstone.
RIP was
nurtured and matured in the pasture with Monnie’s famous pony horse Harley. Monnie
said Harley liked RIP the moment they met. RIP is Harley’s half-brother.
RIP stepped
foot on the Churchill Downs track in late 2022 as a two year old. He trained
for a few weeks them was turned out. He returned to the track the following
spring when he was three years old. He trained for a few weeks, he was turned
out again and returned to the track in the fall.
RIP is about
16.1 hand tall and weighs about 1,300 pounds. And, he’s still growing. His
breed matures at seven years old.
Monnie
describes RIP as a nice horse. He has an even temperament, a great personality,
he loves his job, and the racehorses at Churchill Downs and Keeneland have
great respect for him. Yet at home he is described as a “little kid”. He loves
his pasture time, he puts his feet in the water tub and has learned how to open
the gates.
RIP and
Harley enjoy standing at the rail of the track to meet their fans. Though
Harley is their main focus, RIP makes sure he gets their attention by pawing.
He even tries to take peppermints and carrots away from Harley.
