BASEBALL MLB ALL STAR GAME TICKET FIRST GAME JULY 11, 1960 Kansas City Municipal Stadium
The ticket has been used of course but the stub has most if not all the information on it. The game was held at the old Municipal Stadium that has since been torn down. The stadium itself has a storied history. It was the home of the Kansas City As after they moved to Kansas City from Philadelphia and then moved from Kansas City to Oakland. Then a new stadium and team known as the Royals that was a new franchise came to Kansas City. The old Municipal Stadium had many famous players played there including Mickey Mantle and Jackie Robinson.
In 1959 MLB decided to have two all-star games instead of just one each year. This lasted a total of four years, 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1962. Then they reverted to just one all-star game every year. This ticket stub is for the first all-star game in 1960 held at the old Municipal Stadium with 30,000 in attendance as that was the capacity of the stadium. The second all-star game that year was held two days later, July 13, 1960 in Yankee stadium in New York. The national league won both games. The only other all-star games held in Kansas City was in 1973 and in 2012 in the new stadium occupied by the new team, the Royals.
This ticket stub is truly a rare piece of baseball history and it's in good condition, as you can see from the pictures. I understand that it is so rare that reprints are being printed and sold. They are labeled reprints and are relatively inexpensive. I'm told the backs of them are blank. I've never actually seen one. The one I have for sale is a real original. I sold its mate that was seat 16 earlier this year but my wife found this one in the basement with some other “stuff “ this one is identical except for the seat number being 15 instead of 16.
