HIGHLY DETAILED OO9 SCALE MODEL KIT
Hunslet Engine Co. 2-6-2T - "RUSSELL"
This is a detailed scale model kit for adult collectors. Not for children under 14 years old.
This model kit is of a Hunslet Engine Company number 901 "Russell". This 2-6-2T locomotive was built in 1906 to 2' gauge, to work what became the Welsh Highland Railway. In 1924 the locomotive was heavily modified in order for it to be able to operate on the Ffestiniog Railway. Russell continued to operate on the Welsh Highland Railway up until its closure in 1937.

The locomotive was eventually sold to industry, working on the Fayles Tramway in Dorset until 1953. In 1954, Russell was purchased by the Birmingham Locomotive Trust for preservation, and at first put on display at Tywyn Wharf on the Talyllyn Railway. In 1965, it was donated to the Welsh HIghland Railway preservation group for restoration, first steaming again in 1987. Russell returned to steam after a major overhaul in 2015.

The model comes with a static chassis for display, and can be motorised with a Graham Farish Class 08 Shunter Chassis (outside framed version - either non-DCC or DCC-ready). The model includes all parts required to assemble working Walschaerts Valve Gear, including accurate replacement flycranks. You will need modelling tools (such as a craft knife, cutting board, files and micro-drills) adhesive, paints and ballast material (such as Liquid Gravity) to assemble the kit.

Two versions of the model are available:

c1906 - As built (and present day restored) condition, including tall cab and air brakes.
This kit has been printed in new HD resin, which is darker in finish to the parts shown in the photographs.
c1935 - As cut-down to work the Ffestiniog Railway, with vacuum brakes.

This is a highly detailed scale kit built using our in house machines, with High Definition resin and build layers just 50 microns (0.05mm) thick. Whilst there is 'stepping' visible on the parts up close, this is not discernible once the kit is painted and/or from usual viewing distances. The parts have their main supports removed, though detailing and structural supports will remain to protect the parts in transit, and require removing prior to assembly. Some polishing and filing of the parts is required to ensure they fit together without a seam. Clear (and varnished) resin windows are included, though you may wish to use clear plastic sheet (not included) if preferred.
NEM OO9 couplings are included, along with etch brass motion, brass body panels, pony wheelset and etch works plates.
This model uses re-engineered CAD from our main model range, to optimise the kit building experience. Details include:
Fully detailed cab interior, including representations of:
gauge glasses
regulator (includes spare)
screw reverser lever
handbrake (includes spare)
coal bunker door
pressure gauge
control rods and valve wheels

Fully detailed frame and smokebox, including representations of:
handbrake linkage
cab steps
handrails
lubricator
reverser lifting arm
accurate rivet detail

Fully detailed tank tops, control rods and steam pipes, including representation of:
break pipes
safety valves and steam manifold
steam injectors and top feed
coal heap and coal rails
sand box linkage

Parts to assemble a working outside-framed 2-6-2T chassis, including:
accurate flycranks, both plain and counterweighted (includes spares)
eccentric cranks (includes spares)
expansion links (includes spares)
crossheads (includes spares)
cylinders with drain cock linkage

Some spares denoted above are supplied on a build raft, as you may find it easier to paint them in this form (and they also account for any mistakes during kit assembly).
Fourdees Limited is not liable for any breakages of parts during assembly of the kit. If parts arrive damaged, please provide photographic evidence and we shall replace the damaged component. If you require spares or accessories, please contact us for a quote for replacements.
