SPIRITED AWAY is a 2001 fantasy anime from the famed director Hayao Miyazaki.
It won an Oscar in 2002 for Best Animated Film, the first anime in history to have won an Academy Award.

SPIRITED AWAY is far and away the most successful film to be released by Studio Ghibli...
it is the most famous animated film to ever come out of Japan.
More than just a hit at the box office, it was a phenomenon.

SPIRITED AWAY became the first film to ever gross $280 million world wide
and surpassed Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time in the Japanese box office.

The popular Studio Ghibli perpetual calendar from SPIRITED AWAY,
where Chihiro rides on the KAIHARA ELECTRIC RAILWAY to
go to Zeni-ba's house,

uses dice-shaped numbers for days and months of the week that change every day
and can be used as well every year, has been updated.

The pieces can be placed anywhere: on the luggage rack, on the seat, on No-Face's lap, or on the floor.
Chihiro's delicate expression, a mixture of anxiety and determination, is expressed very well.

BRIEF NARRATIVE ABOUT "THE TRAIN SCENE"

SPIRITED AWAY culminates with one of the greatest scenes Hayao Miyazaki has ever created in his movies
---The famous train sequence ---
a lengthy stretch of the movie that has no dialogue and relies solely on mood and music.

It is the most melancholic scene Miyazaki had ever animated.

Chihiro sets out on the sea railway, along with a spirit called No-Face (Kaonashi),
across the sea of the spirit realm to Swamp Bottom
where they are traveling to visit Zeni-ba, sister of Yubaba.

The train tracks are submerged underwater, making the train appear as if gliding across the ocean.
Inside the train are a bunch of spirits, each of whom are faceless but never speak.
Chihiro and the now-friendly No-Face, and the many faceless spirits simply sit on the train, waiting for the sixth stop.
Nobody ever speaks to one another for the entirety of the train ride, and each of the spirits leave at the next stop
except only Chihiro, No-Face, and the little mouse (Bou) and bird (Haedori) are all that remain.

And the story continues...
