Peckham for Failure to Appear. Captain Samuel Manchester, Militia
Commander. Moses Lawson, Deputy Sheriff. Middletown, Rhode Island, Newport
County. Issued by Middletown Justice of the Peace Joshua Coggeshall, and dated October
20th 1828. Manuscript summons measuring approximately 9.25 x 7.75
inches. Signed and sealed, docketed to verso.
From Summons: The said Timothy Peckham being a private
in the 2d Company of Militia in said Middletown commanded by Samuel Manchester
Captain… did not appear at said time and place, nor render any excuse thereof, all
which appears by the copy of a warrant issued by said Captain together with the
officer return thereon…
With manuscript notation to verso by Deputy Sheriff Moses
Lawson: I have served the within summons on Timothy Peckham this day as within
Commanded according to Law. Dated October 29th, 1828.
Folded; lightly foxed and toned, with small (approx. .75
inch) open tear to right edge (not affecting text). Very good.
