1962 Press Photo Organization of American States Votes on Cuba Nuclear Situation

This is an original press photo. Western Hemisphere defense - On October 23, 1962 the United States appealed to the Organization of American States Council to invoke the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance to help meet the threat of nuclear aggressive build-up in Cuba. The Council's twenty members unanimously approved the request, and later that same day, acting as Organ of Consultation under the Rio Treaty, recommended that OAS member states take all measures, individually and collectively, including the use of armed force, to ensure that Cuban communist regime could not continue to receive materials and supplies from the Sino-Soviet powers that could threaten the peace and security of the continent. Thus, the quarantine of Cuba was carried through with the support of all the Americas.Photo measures 9.5 x 7inches. Photo is dated 10-23-1962.
