Joseito Mateo fue un gran merenguero dominicano,  antecesor de otros grandes del Merengue como Wilfrido Vargas, Sergio Vargas y Fernando Villalona. En esa década del 50 y 60,  Joseito era la estrella máxima del Merengue.  Fue también una estrella en Puerto Rico, cuando combino Salsa y Merengue con el Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.  Se disputa el trono del Rey del Merengue en conjunto con otros intérpretes. Joseito Mateo was a great Dominican merengue player, predecessor of other Merengue greats such as Wilfrido Vargas, Sergio Vargas and Fernando Villalona. In that decade of the 50s and 60s, Joseito was the top star of Merengue. He was also a star in Puerto Rico, when he combined Salsa and Merengue with the Great Combo of Puerto Rico.
