Felt Rug 7'10" x 3'7" Turkmen Sheep Wool Area Carpet Flooring Handmade Gift Keche
ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
This rug was made from 'saryja' sheep wool in 2021 by Oguldursun gelineje - women in Mary province of Turkmenistan, in Central Asia.
Ornaments on Turkmen felt rugs have distinct and clear geometric lines and rich colouring, where generally shades of red dominate. This rug mainly features "Gulyaka" motif which is a type of jewelry Turkmen women would wear as chest-plate.
The felt-rolling process requires makers - usually women - to use their hands to press and roll the wet wool. The hands quickly become sore in the process, and the makers often get blisters and scars.
In the East, home décor items made from wool have been very popular for generations. The presence of wool in the house is believed to make the owners happy and lucky.
The peoples of the Karakum believed that sheep and camel wool hair detoxifies the body and provides the rejuvenating effect to the skin and making it firmer and softer thus, it cures various types of arthritis and neuritis, osteochondrosis and rheumatism.
They have traditionally used this to reduce the effects of arthritis, because sheep wool is rich for lanolin content (wool fat), which is easily absorbed in the skin and has healing effects on the body.
The felt rug has a nice tingling feel to it and can be used inside the home and in the backyard for relaxing on the lawns. It is particularly recommended for and is enjoyed by kids.
