White flexible vinyl post caps look great and are designed to cover the ends of our lumber after cutting.
This cap fits snug over a standard 2x4 (Approx; 1-1/2" x 3-1/2") to protect the wood post end from weather exposure.

These are designed to fit very snug on a standard 2x4, and in colder conditions, they can be very difficult to apply.  As such they may require heat to make them as malleable as possible.  A soak in hot water, time in the sun or a hair dryer can often make instillation much easier.
