Stylish Antique Arts & Crafts Movement Pewter Capstan Inkwell c1870

The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts that began in the British Isles in c1870 and spread across the world. It focused on the artisan and was a reaction against the mass production of the industrial revolution.

This stylish English pewter inkwell with a hinged top retains its glass inset inkwell. The outer rim of the base has two small pyramidal projections to act as a pen rest. The inkwell is free of decoration, making it both elegant and sophisticated.

The hinge works well but is a little ‘loose’, otherwise in fine condition with a wonderful patina garnered over the last 150 years.

It measures approx. 18cm in diameter by 7.5cm.

 A great collectable inkwell.
