"Despite his unconventional name, Felix Hell has
suddenly become one of my favorite organists…His extraordinary artistic
sensibility swept me off my feet on first hearing his rendition of
Rheinberger's Abenfriede on this disc. His playing brings out
the work's delicacy, grace, and lyricism, drawing me into the recording
with its silences, pianissimo sections, and polyphony. Keith Johnson's
recording skills capture the full frequency range, mixing subterranean
pedal chords with the upper registers, so that my room resonated, even
at low volumes." – Larry Greenhill, Stereophile, February 2007
Prof.
Johnson brilliantly captures the spectacular sounds of the massive
Schoenstein Organ of First-Plymouth Congregational Church, Lincoln,
Nebraska. Felix Hell is one of the most exciting and remarkable
organists on today’s concert scene. His virtuosity and dazzling
technique and his profound understanding of the music is all the more
remarkable in a musician just 17 years old. He is gaining an
international reputation as an up-and-coming superstar of the King of
Instruments, and his gifts are fully on display on this recording of
some of the greatest of the organ masterworks by Liszt, Guilmant, Vierne
and Rheinberger.
REFERENCE RECORDINGS is a well known audiophile label. Indeed "Professor Keith O.
