​This listing adds a USB-C port to your custom iPod order, replacing the 30-pin dock connector. You get sync, charge, and line-level audio output through the USB-C port. A passive USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is included for connecting to a stereo, dock, or amplifier.

The knockoff modules on the market do not have audio output — data and charge only. If you want line-out through the port, those will not work. This one does.

(5th & 5.5 Gens Only) Optional DIYMod: I swap the stock coupling caps for large audio-grade capacitors, your choice of Nichicon or Elsa Silmic II (discontinued but excellent). Wired with silver-plated solid core. The original caps stay on the board so the mod is reversible.

DIYMod combined with Taptic may require a thick-case iPod for the extra space. This adds a few days to the build time. This is for iPods ordered from my shop; mail-in service is coming soon.

I've installed dozens of these and have the process down well and can guarantee success. 

What you gain:

  • USB-C charging and sync (modern cables, no more 30-pin hunt)

  • Reversible audio upgrade option (DIYMod)

What you lose:

  • All 30-pin accessories — docks, speakers, cables, car kits, camera connectors
  • Compatibility with virtually every iPod dock ever made
  • FireWire charging (if your model supported it)
