Benzophenone is able to absorb and reflect UV radiation, due to which it can keep substances from the action of light for a long time. Therefore, it is used as a photostabilizer and odor fixative and is added to soap fragrances, some perfumes, cosmetics to protect the skin from UV radiation, and some dyes and pigments to protect against UV radiation. Benzophenone derivatives, one of which is Michler's ketone, also a photosensitizer, have received their use more widely.
