Toner is my biz.  I can tell you that there are lots of toners on Ebay that are so old they will not work ok--even if you buy HP -- They print light or worse.  It used to be the case that you could just avoid the blue and white box style, but even the black and white box like this one can be over 10 years old now.  The only answer is to check the manufacture date code on the lower left corner of the back side of the box.
