Rare & Stunning Antique Rural Landscape Enamel Brass Plaque From a Box or Cross, c1900.

This beautiful enamelled plaque has a brass body, the enamel has been applied within cells formed by the brass foundation having shallow walls for outlines of the image. The cells have been skilfully painted with shading and contrast to add accents and a dynamic quality. The brass has a gentle arc or dome to the piece, the back has a screw fitting with a nut to apply it to a box or cross or something similar. It is possible the screw is a later addition. There are no maker marks or signatures.

There are no losses to the enamel, there are some very faint hairlines, these are almost imperceptible.  The reverse has some glue added to the corners, clearly it once helped to hold the plaque in position.

The plaque measures approx. 11.6cm by 8.5cm.

A stunning collectible piece.
