The item for sale is a small bronze statuette of a man with a suspended cat that was probably made in Europe perhaps Austria or Germany during the late nineteenth century to early twentieth century.  The man is dressed in centuries old clothing from the Renaissance or Elizabethan periods for example.  He is holding a cat suspended by the scruff of its neck.  The subject is unknown but it could be a character from literature or folklore.  The statue is extremely well made and detailed.  The pose is dynamic with a twisting posture that conveys movement.  There are no markings nor signature.  The statue is mounted on a square black marble base. The condition of the bronze statue is essentially the same as when it was made.  The patina original and shows no wear.  There is no damage of any kind.  There are a few tiny spots of verdigris near the rim of the disc the subject is standing on.  The figure rotates freely on the marble base.  A screw or nut may need to be tightened on the underside of the base.  A piece of felt glued to the bottom will have to be removed to do this.  The total height is 6 3/4".  The base is 4" square.
