The Torres Strait Islander flag was designed by the late Bernard Namok of Thursday Island.
The flag symbolises the unity and identity of all Torres Strait Islanders.
The flag is emblazoned with a white Dhari (headdress) which is a symbol of Torres Strait Islanders.
The white five pointed star beneath it symbolises peace, the five major island groups and the navigational importance of stars to the seafaring people of the Torres Strait.
This commercial quality flag has been made from the highest quality extra heavy-duty 165 g/m2 woven polyester fabric to make it last as long as possible. It is even stronger than our 130 g/m2 knitted polyester and is one of the most durable materials used in flag making. Commonly used for flags for large ships that endure harsh weather and so is ideal for outdoor use, day in day out. Due to its weight this flag is more suited to windier locations.
The entire flag has been double-stitched to ensure a longer life.
This flag has been screen-printed with the best quality UV-stabilised inks with 100% colour penetration on the reverse side
