According to Wikipedia, "The 9th Armored Division (the ‘Phantom Division’) was an armored division of the United States Army during World War II. In honor of their World War II service, the 9th was officially nicknamed the ‘Phantom Division.’….The 3rd Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. The regiment served with the 9th Armored Division during and after World War II…..The 16th Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. The regiment served with the 4th Division in World War II and with the 4th and 8th Divisions between the World Wars. As the 16th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, it served with the 9th Armored Division during World War II, and with the 2nd Armored Division after the war….The 73rd Field Artillery Regiment is believed to be an arm of the Field Artillery Branch (United States) which was founded on November 17, 1775, by the Continental Congress, and was based in West Germany between 1963 and 1975.”

DESCRIPTION:  This is a SCARCE German porcelain ashtray bearing faded transfer graphics for the United States Army 9th Armored Division! This item likely dates to the end of World War II; an American soldier brought this item home as a souvenir, and we discovered it among the contents of an estate in West Virginia. Made of porcelain in Bavaria by Schumann. Measures 5-7/8" in diameter x 1" high. A great addition to your smoking, tobacciana, 9th Armored Division or WWII memorabilia collection!
