As I am still downsizing my personal collection, I have
decided to let my Bulldog Light tank collection go.
This Climb Action tank made by Remco in this auction is in great shape and
works perfectly going forward and back. The box is in great condition. I think later in the 60's Remco started getting flack for having projectiles and decided to make less "deadly" versions of its toys. I think the Climb Action is a result of that. Just like they later made the Bobcat and Mountain Cat orange tanks which did not fly off the shelves so like this are very rare. I think I have only seen a couple Climb Action and bought them to make this ultimate one. It could not shoot shells so they were not included but they gave you these rubber type weights. I have never seen an explanation for what they are for but this tank includes them. This is a collectors tank. It would be almost impossible to find one.
Remco made five different versions of the tank including the
boxes. There was the original black,
white and red box that Remco used for several toys including the Bulldog, the
Johnny Reb cannon, Pom Pom gun and several others. They started using that box in the late 50?s. Later the same Bulldog light was upgraded to
the orange colored box in the mid 60s.
Remco then added the Monkey Division to several of its toys including
the Bulldog. The Monkey Division was the same tank just with a Monkey Division
sticker. Later Remco made the Bobcat
which was an orange body. They also made
the Whirlybird in orange and added orange to the Fighting Lady to rebrand her. Finally, they made the Climb Action which was
exactly the same except they blocked the gun barrel and did not provide any
shells. The firing mechanism still works
but with no shells and blocking the barrel it cannot shoot. Instead, they added rubber weights to put in
the shell holders on the side. The weighs are impossible to find. I bought several of each tanks over the years
to create my collection so you can be sure that these tanks are the best you
can find.
The last picture shows all the boxes at once. This picture is just for reference.
