Up for Sale is an OEM RESTORED Amplifier correct for; 64-E-68, P/N #1115005, Corvette, Chevelle, Camaro, Nova (possibly other GM makes/models) equipped with the K-66 Transistor Ignition. These Amplifiers are original factory OEM units that we have restored.
Note: only OEM units will NOT lose points; Judges typically deduct 2-4 pts for reproduction units (which I also sell-see other listing, for much less).
The amp is meticulously restored cosmetically to "original" and
are now in Show Condition! The restoration includes: strip paint, re-paint correct shine, with no paint on machined bosses, i.e., factory, backing plate and screws are re-plated dychromate, extension harness is re-wrapped if necessary, and finally a correct Delco decal is applied. Best of all, they are guaranteed/warrantied for 90 Days!
Why buy this amp from us? What are your options? The main reason is these are original factory units. Why is that important your ask?:
1) OEM unit has stamped on the single mounting ear boss, the entire P/N 1115005. The reproduction has a full P/N, but cooling fin configuration is quite differen and will lose points. Not even so called NOS (over-the-counter; service replacement) are correct, because they have nothing stamped on the boss area, and have only the last 3 digits (343) stamped on the side.
2) In Judging, please note: the reproduction will typically lose 3-4 points (my opinion, as a Master Judge), due to not only the P/N configuration, but also the cooling fin configuration. The reproduction cooling fin are the same thickness from top to bottom, whereas the OEM is thin at the top and swells to a wider base-easily detectable by the Judges.
3) This unit will have a NEW Delco licensed reproduction module/board, that has up-graded Silicon Transistors
(impervious to heat & vibration that kills the OEM germanium
transistors), so best of both Worlds: correct configuration with contemporary function/durability.
4) Yes, you could do the restoration work yourself (it is not overly difficult), and even buy the same new module and decal-we sell them separately; we even sell the reproduction complete amp, similar to this listing-see our other listings. The difficult part is getting the backing plate and screws re-plated: you usually need a minimum "load" for a platter to even look at it.
5) You may not have a correct housing, so have to source a correct one, as described above-We have them in stock.
Note: This sale is for a "Flat" backing plate which is 100% correct L-67-E-68 and later used on the #1115343 pigtail design. However, if you require a "Cupped" backing plate to fully comply with correct 64-M67; please add $75 extra.
Although, this sale is an outright/no core required sale, if you send us your OEM (only) similar core, we will refund $150 when we receive your old core (no broken fins or mounting bosses or cut extension harness or rusty backing plates, please).
