Henri Matisse
(1869-1954) Pierre H. Matisse, was born in Paris, France. His parents were both artists, his father, a sculpture, and his mother a painter and ceramist. Being the grandson of the renowned Henry Matisse, Pierre grew up surrounded by the art scene of France. Growing up, Pierre was introduced to some of the most famous artists of the century: Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Fernand Leger, and of course his own grandfather Henri Matisse. Pierre helped his father in his studio, and studied painting with his mother and his grandfather. During the war years, Pierre studied at L'Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and Les Courd d'Art du Soir de la Ville De Paris. The majority of Pierre's works are oil paintings executed with a pallete knife in a heavy impasto technique. Currently Pierre Matisse resides in Florida with his wife Jeanne. Several of his landscape paintings are included in the Deland Mueseum of Art's permanent collection, as well as corporate collections including General Mills. Pierre Matisse's life has been chronicled in two books and several feature articles
