(Acquired by Texas Instruments) The Switching Regulator PT78ST212V 3 PIN Through Hole regulator will replace inefficient TO-220 linear regulators. This is a DC in to a DC out, non-Isolated Power Converter. Greater than 87% efficiencies at output currents above 0.5A to 2.0A can easily handle 3A Iout surges. This is the vertical unit with an aluminum heatsink with side pins. The heatsink is isolated from the unit. It is recommended to be tied to circuit ground (for superior EMI performance, do not tie heatsink to elevated voltages, do not use heat sink to complete circuit paths). Greater efficiencies mean your power converter stays cooler than a linear regulator.

 Devices accept 14.5 Vdc to 28 Vdc and produce 12.0 Vout and will deliver up to 2A. These do not have over-voltage input protection. They do have over temperature protection and over current protection. Over current is over 6A so Vin fuses and Vout fusing is recommended for sensitive designs. Unit requires a Vin Capacitor and a Vout capacitor to operate correctly. MLCC is recommended on Vin and Electrolytic/Tantalum is recommended on the Vout. See online datasheet (PT78ST200).
