I cannot compete with the prices from China, but what I can do is CUSTOMISE your order. Also, every order that needs to be sewn, I sew by hand. Pursuant to the item, I, with 70 years’ experience, know how far to space the stiches.
In all probability 95% ov all ov my patterns, I designed myself and many items are “one of a kind” and I will never make another-one just like the one that you purchased, [unless you ask me to].
Your order starts out with me making a pattern, then tracing the pattern onto a side ov leather. Then carefully cutting it out, then tooling &/or stamping the design. Then dying the leather & waiting for it to dry. The wetting the leather to for it, and again waiting for it to dry. Then punching the stitch holes or rivet holes & then the tedious time devouring task of HAND SEWING. Last but not least, putting the finish coat on you order.
CUSTOM orders require, at best a 50% non-refundable deposit. I will draw up your request & you will “sign-off” your approval Then and only then will I start to cut the leather.
Please remember that leather is become very expensive as are the necessary tools. YOUR time is valuable, as is the talent, knowledge, and the time ov the craftsman’s.
I do not work like a lot of my competitors, they, on average take the cost of ALL ov their materials & then multiply it by at least 3 = their retail price. Most of them use a $2,000 +/- sewing machine.
FYI: I do humbly apologize to you for my having to charge you for shipping my hand made leather goods. As you will read in the beginning ov my next paragraph, I make very little “profit” & our United States Post office keeps raising the price for their services {2025 recent increase ov 39.8%} at a minimum ov $8.32 & up for mailing your purchase, + eBay takes 14.5% ov my selling price. I personally look at this S&H price like putting this money as gas & my time having to RUN to a brick & morter store.
I work awfully close with my selling prices! I figure my cost of materials and about 5%-15% profit so I can afford to buy more materials &/or tools.
Leather is expensive, TOOLS are VERY costly & this is one ov my hobbies, you will notice that I re-use the envelopes that I get my medications in from the VA so I can save money. Also please remember that eBay takes almost 13.5% ov my selling price which does not leave me much profit. This is way I can do what I enjoy and provide a quality product that U can enjoy and pass-on from generation to generation. People that do leather work as a profession usually take cost of material + hours X’s 3= HIGH RETAIL, (not me).

I, as an ex-cowboy AND as a Leather craftsman, cannot compete with Chinas’ prices. BUT what I can do that they don’t do, is that I can AND do make ur purchase personalized. Everything that I create starts out as a hide of LEATHER. I make my own patterns and I then trace it, cut it out. I then do whatever I have to produce a fine quality hand crafted ALL LEATHER creation that you helped me create. I hand sew whatever needs to be stitched. What I do is commonly known as "Saddle Stitching" and it too, is done by hand. Some of my customers want me to personalize their order. Personalized work could be anything as simple as dying (not paint) your order to your choice ov color, or simply stamping YOUR initials or as expensive as "hand tooling" their order, (floral, animal or even insect motif).
CUSTOM work sometimes requires me making a "working" template along with a drawing of the tooling (which involves hours of work). I then, either email this oak tag replica and the customer and then they send me their approval at which time I give the customer a quote on the price. with all of this being said, I then expect the customer to pay me a 50% NON-REFUNDABLE deposit through my account with "Pay Pal”.
