2 Rare Ivanhoe Noritake Japan Flat Cream Soup Bowl & Saucer Sets Circa 1918- VTG
These beautiful pieces are part of a rare pattern manufactured in Japan most likely between 1918 and the end of WWII. The Flat Cream Soup Bowl & Saucer are a relatively unique set of pieces not found in more modern china collections. With a subtle off-white on white pattern accented by gold trim and delicate blue and floral designs, this set is a wonderful addition to any Noritake collection.
Only one bowl has the Blue Noritake M Logo, the remaining bowl and saucers all have the brown "US Design patent applied for" logo. "The use of the "M" gives a date before 1953 when the long used "M" in a
wreath was replaced with a "N" for Noritake. Until 1921 Noritake
predominately marked export wares Nippon meaning Japan in Japanese,
while most back stamps after 1921 state "Japan" or "Made in Japan." From
the early 1920 and probably until 1940 most if not all US market
patterns were designed in New York. Marks with US Design Patent Pending
probably dates to this period, to whatever effect it might have had to
stop other Japanese companies to copy the modern and successful Noritake
designs." ~From Gothborg.com
