This shawl is made in the Modern Granny Stitch, which makes it rather warm and heavy in spite of the yarn being relatively light-weight.

It is 100% acrylic and machine washable, but I always recommend hand washing for yarn items. If you insist on machine washing, at least place the item in a wash bag to avoid over-stretching and snagging.
