OOAK Siraya Aboriginal Indigenous Taiwan Necklace Glass Beads Knotted Satin Cord. Condition is "Pre-owned". Shipped with USPS First Class.

I visited a friend in the city of Tainan (Taiwan) some years back. His housemate, a member of the Siraya Taiwanese aboriginal tribe, had started a cultural arts center in the village in the mountains where she grew up. Her idea was to encourage tribal members to make items for sale to the public, to raise funds and awareness about the tribe's existence. We took a drive into the mountains for a visit.

I bought some jewelry there, including this piece, which features handmade glass beads and is largely comprised of intricate satin cord knotwork. I also ate lychee fruits from a freshly chopped branch and drank lychee plonk wine, which is buried in the forest floor for a year before being dug up and drunk. It tastes like old bubblegum and the whole family drinks out of the same cup that gets passed around like a bottle of Jack at a bonfire. It was an awesome experience.

A cool feature of the necklace is that the length is adjustable. Two clever knots on the upper thin part of the cording can lengthen or shorten the necklace by up to six inches. I'm selling it because I've mostly stopped wearing jewelry and am moving my collection along.
