Electricity in the Garden, Geoffrey Gerard, W.H. and L Collingrid
Ex Library with date due sheet and borrowing ticket
in quite good condition for a ex library book
Foreword

This book has the object of showing the gardener some of the
ways in which modern electrical science can help him.

It is not assumed that the gardener has a knowledge of electricity.
The first chapters of the book are devoted to outlining certain
elementary principles and explaining the meaning of familiar
electrical terms, such as 'volts', 'amperes', etc.
The first part of the book does not pretend to be a complete
treatise on electricity. But it does at least touch on some important
fundamentals and helps the gardener to handle electrical equipment
with safety.
Although'some applications of electricity to horticulture are at
present in a purely experimental stage, it is hoped that the chapters
on wiring installations, illumination, soil warming, glasshouse heat-
ing, sterilization, water supply, machines, etc., will introduce the
gardener to his ever-ready servant, electricity.
The last chapter gives a few hints on simple maintenance work
which does not require elaborate tools or expensive instruments.
This should help the gardener to keep his installation in good repair
at a minimum expense.
There is an appendix which gives some useful extracts from the
British Standard Draft Code of Practice, Farm and Horticultural
Electrical Installations 1949.
In conclusion, the author desires to acknowledge his indebtedness
to a number of firms, authorities and individuals, who have kindly
furnished the information and provided some of the illustrations for
this book. In these respects the author wishes to express his thanks to
