Historic Photo
Olds, Wortman & King Department Store
~ June 1913 ~
This wonderful and historic photograph measures approx 8 x 10 inches. This was saved in an old scrapbook belonging to Del Allen, formerly of Beaverton Oregon. Believe she's somewhere in this picture of all female salesgirls and women. The clock on the wall reads 9 O'Clock sharp. The department store is likely to open soon.
The main staircase is draped in all manner of American flags. They contain 48 stars ~ as New Mexico and Arizona had become the 47th and 48th states the year previous in 1912. The women all hold armfuls of roses. To the left is a candy counter with a display of jars in all shapes and sizes filled with candies.
At first glance I imagined this was a celebration for 4th of July Independence Day. But a poster on the right announces the Rose Festival / Portland Oregon / June 9 10 11 1913 and, of course, since the girls are all holding roses this must be why they're gathered. I saved a hand-written title that was written on the album paper. Del Allen recalled this event having taken place in 1912. But the poster, although somewhat blurry, reads 1913.
Photo Measures 7.875 x 9.875 Inches.
In Very Good Condition: Lower Right Corner is Barely Hanging On.
