Wood and Stone: Landmarks of the Upper Mohawk Region by Virginia B. Kelly, Merrilyn R. O'Connell, Stephen S. Olney, and Johanna R. Reig, 1972 This book is one of a thematic group of books I am listing focused History. From the Foreword, “Unlike New England, upstate New York (and the upper Mohawk is the quintessence of the upstate spirit) was never a “finished civilization.” The gateway to the West and the thoroughfare for the nation’s travel and trade, the upper Mohawk underwent constant change. Each generation of newcomers sought to express their concept of what was fitting and beautiful in wood and stone. They left us a goodly heritage and this book has recaptured the essence of this heritage.”
