Japan: A History in Art by Bradley Smith, 1964, First Printing This book is one of a group of books I am listing that are all large photo books highlighting different Countries. From the flap of the dust jacket, "This unique and uniquely beautiful book presents the history of Japan through twenty centuries - as seen, remembered and recorded by her artists. In it the Japanese vision of life, in its richness, delicacy and complexity of pattern, is captured and clarified as never before."


This large hardcover book (9 x 12 ¾ inches, 295 pages) is a Gemini-Smith Inc. book published by Doubleday & Company Inc. of Garden City, New York, dated 1964.  The book is bound in dark red cloth covered boards with a gold gilt Japanese letters on the cover and title on the spine. The book is full of color illustrations and photographs. Please see the photograph of the Table of Contents for additional information.


Condition:  This book is in very good condition.   The dust jacket is in good shape with just a small amount of edge wear and a little yellowing.    The hardcovers are in very nice shape with very slight edge wear. Inside, the end page has an embossed address stamp of a prior owner and some pages are a bit yellowed from age.  Otherwise, the pages are unmarked and clean and bright, from cover to cover. Both hinges are fully intact and the binding is tight and sound.  This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
