What phone system does the Avaya 9508 require?
The 9508 requires Avaya IP Office Release 7.0 or later and one available digital station port using DCP protocol. It is NOT compatible with Avaya Aura Communication Manager or any SIP-based system.

How does this phone get power — does it need PoE?
No PoE switch required. The 9508 is a DCP digital phone that draws power directly from the Avaya IP Office digital station card. It is not an IP/Ethernet phone and does not connect to a network switch.

What is the difference between the Global/Icon version and the standard version?
The Global (Icon) version has the English text labels removed from the fixed-key faceplate — buttons use icons only. Functionality is identical to the standard version. This is the currently manufactured model; Avaya has transitioned all 9500 Series phones to the Global form factor.

Can I add more programmable buttons to this phone?
Yes. Up to three Avaya BM12 button modules (sidecars) can be connected, each adding 24 programmable keys for a maximum of 96 total key positions. Each BM12 requires a dedicated Avaya 1151C1 power supply (sold separately).
