Early primitive antique ovoid crock lidded jar with two applied handles. A hard-to-find cookie jar from America's oldest pottery, Pfaltzgraff of York County, PA.
For a very brief period Pfaltzgraff produced an art pottery line and made a series of pieces in this great glaze. Based on its maker's mark together with the time period for production of that line, this cookie jar was made in 1932.
A beautiful and rare color of deep pink dusty rose glaze, semi matt ~ very rich ~ faint glaze crazing in spots.
Its commanding presence, at about 9 " tall x 9 " diameter with the lid on.
Stamped on the bottom along with numerical and logo incised lines of YORK.
NOTE: It has a lid and along with it come a couple chips on the rim and one on the lid with early repairs, and one tiny nick. The chips have since been covered with a color match paint for a magazine photo shoot ~ if you want it can be left or is removable for a formal repair ~ pottery chips are easy repairs; cracks are not. No cracks.
A nice piece to add to your collection as well as an unusual color of old crockery for decor ~ fill it full of daisies or mums on a wicker table in the yard..... would look gorgeous holding a floral bouquet for a porch decoration or a country hearth mantle or a country table center piece too.
A rare old colorful pottery piece as found from a florist's estate.
