This is an authentic (NOT a modern reprint) vintage 1925 photogravure by
renown German photographer Dr. Gregor Krause (from a negative/glass
slide he created in circa 1912). Turn of the century photography was
largely responsible for the "discovery" of the island of Bali by the
rest of the world at large. It was the photographs of Dr. Krause
portraying young Balinese women, whose breasts were by custom often
unclothed, that played a great role in the arising of tourism to the
island. These images stimulated an influx of visitors and tourists from
all around the world, to Bali. Krause's photographs captured the beauty
of Balinese women and most particularly their breasts, which would
quickly become the standard of "breast beauty" for the West - spawning
all manner of breast related advertising and even a brassiere called
the "Bali Bra". Krause’s provocative black and white shots of maidens
and lads bathing, topless women going about their daily business and
half naked women amid coconut palms evoked an exotic island paradise
where the women were beautiful and the cares of the world could be
forgotten. But, by the early 1950's, the innocent, uninhibited Bali
which Krause's lens had captured was all but gone - lost forever to the
continuing advances of western ideas and influence.
Finephoto
is pleased to offer this rare collection of outstanding nude studies
which were carefully selected and assembled in 1924/25 by Dr. Peter
Landow in Berlin, Germany. With a search spanning from Europe and
Africa to distant South Pacific Islands, Landow sought the finest in
nude photography from the world's greatest photographers. In 1925 after
a lengthy selection process, the resulting 120 images were printed in
the finest quality sepia toned gravure to the highest archival standards.
The paper is of superb quality and the prints themselves are simply
beautiful to behold. This vintage collection contained what many would
consider to be the finest examples of artistic nude photography of the
early 20th century, from some of the most talented artists of the era.
This
photogravure is guaranteed to be authentic and comes with a hand signed
CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (COA) with unique individual registered serial number from the Finephoto Archive & Database. Under
magnification this plate shows a tight "honeycomb" grid, uniform
pressing of ink and a wide range of tone - all indicative of a high
quality sheet fed gravure print. The watermark word "Finephoto" does not appear on the actual print.
READY FOR FRAMING & DISPLAY! - The expensive engraved copper plate photogravure process and the resulting fine
