About the Artwork

On the approach to Venice lies the Dogana da Mar, at right, with the island and church of San Giorgio Maggiore in the distance. Lavishly costumed figures populate the numerous barges and gondolas that occupy the Laguna Veneta. Venice: The Dogana and San Giorgio Maggiore (1834) is a pendant to Keelmen Heaving in Coals by Moonlight (1835), both of which were commissioned by the Manchester textile manufacturer Henry McConnel. The first depicts the languid calm of a declining mercantile empire, the other the dynamism of an industrial seaport in the north of England.

Fine Art Quality

The Ibis’s giclée process uses archival pigment inks on 100% cotton rag paper to achieve crisp detail and rich, lasting color. Unlike posters, they will not yellow with time, but will maintain their original quality for as long as you own them.
