Why would you need a flame retardant waistcoat?

Normal waistcoats are made of highly flammable polyester. If you are working with naked flames or other forms of combustion, wearing a standard waistcoat could be very dangerous.

A flame retardant waistcoat will melt under a naked flame but once the flame is removed it will NOT sustain a flame.  These garments should be used in conjunction with other flame retardant garments and never be worn next to the skin.
