Jim has said of Villec, “In my opinion, David Villec is one of the very best artists now working in North America, one of the few artists who can paint wildlife and people”.

And Jim has written, “Photos are wonderful, but there is no photograph that can hope to capture and portray what a painting can; there is something timeless, traditional and pure about a painting. Still, it takes an artist of great skill to put to canvas those elements so lacking in a photograph. He painted my son Branlin and I with a lion I'd taken in Tanzania and while the photos of that memory are stored in my computer, the painting hangs in a place of honor right above the actual mounted lion in my trophy room.”
