FULL TITLE: STRIKE FIGHTER INTERCEPT

OVERVIEW
This coursebook is divided into twenty chapters of instruction that will teach the prerequisite
procedures for intercepting a simulated target aircraft in an air-to-air environment.

SCOPE
This coursebook will teach the fundamentals of intercept geometry: the mechanics of
collision course corrections, and the rote procedures for different types of intercepts. In addition,
the Strike/Fighter student will be taught how to cope with dynamic or unexpected situations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES (ENABLING AND TERMINAL) Learning objectives are listed in CNATRAINST 1542.121.D

MODE OF INSTRUCTION
Each chapter has a corresponding self-study quiz located in the Strike/Fighter student checkin
package. This material should be completed prior to the respective class.
It should be noted that a few chapters are self-contained and require no outside preparation.
For example, IP-8 is an oral test session to review and reinforce material covered in IP-1 through
IP-7. IP-10 consists of a series of CD / cassette tape exercises designed to help the students
make rapid intercept calculations. Finally, IP-14 and IP-15 cover information about the
Sidewinder, Sparrow, Phoenix and AMRAAM missiles. Space for note taking is provided at the
end of each chapter.

FINAL PERFORMANCE CHECKS
There is no end of course examination, however, the end of basic instruction exam (EBIX)
will test the student’s grasp of this course material in an academic environment. Moreover, the
student will be required to apply the intercept procedures and concepts throughout the trainer and
flight events. The final performance checks are the four airborne check flights.
