VX220 / LOTUS ROOF CABLE

The listing is for a Brand New Replacement Roof Cable to fit Vauxhall VX220's and some Lotus Elise's (I believe this to be Series 2 & Series 3 models which have the short roof)  I understand it also fits the Exige's too as these have the same short roof as the VX220 and S2 Elise.  The cable is 39 - 40 inches in length. 

Original Cables, supplied by Lotus and Vauxhall, are prone to snapping on the thread as this is 1 of the weak points within the cable assembly.  After hearing of so many cables breaking, after such a short amount of time on the car, and breaking at the same weak point everytime, we decided to manufacture a complete cable assembly without the weak points.  The set-up is the same with the adjuster at one end, and secured to your roof using alan-bolts, but design flaws have been taken away and improvements made.

On the original OEM manufacturer cables, the end plates are only riveted from one side, this causes a twist on the pin when it is placed under load from being attached to the roof and under tension. This causes a side load on the pin, as it is only riveted from one side, causing a weak point and a twisting action which would lead to a failure. Ours have a machine slot, offset to one side, allowing the pin to pass through the plate, transferring the force to a central pull, thereby elminating the twisting force and eliminating another failure point.

The original OEM cables were swaged. Although that may have made them slightly slimmer to fit, this added another weak point. Swaging the cables here would put the force directly onto a crimp or swaging the cable end component directly onto the cable (by use of hydraulic press), would also be another weak point as the cable would want to pull out of the cable end component over time due to the force from the roof cable tension.  Our cables are looped through the cable end component, and crimped, with a copper crimp. The benefit of this is it does away with another weak point of the OEM cable, and it halves the load on the crimp, because you have two pull points  due to the formation of the cable and crimp, thus increasing strength.

We have been manufacturing and selling these cables for over 20 years. In this time, our cables have been perfected to iron out the flaws and failures in the original design and provide the best possible roof cable and strongest design we can.

The Lotus Part number for this item is B116V0064H and they will charge you around £85.00 plus for one! and usually they are not in stock.

Please note, the cables are the same front and back on the VX220 and Series 2 & 3 Elise and Exige.  We have made these for the Series 1 before, so contact us if you require a longer length etc.

Our cables are 2.5mm stainless steel and plastic coated against corrosion within a waterproof covering, and have a completely different thread design eliminating the main weak points, and are overall better than the originals!  You will not be disappointed with this part.

We have sold thousands of these cables to members of the VX220 forum and the usual response is they are a much better design than the Original, because simply they are!  It is not often a non-original part is better than the original, but in this case, they are!  The OEM cables are severely flawed in design leading to so many breaking after such a short space of time.

If you go into Vauxhall or Lotus, they tend not to have cables in stock and normally give a 7 day wait for them.  Our cables are in stock and ready to be sent out by 1st Class Recorded Delivery.  They are handy to have as a spare to save you being without the use of you car.

Typically it's a 5 minute job to replace.
Please note, from our experience some roof's are stitched tighter than others, obviously determining how easy a job its going to be.
